Municipal Golf Course to Remain Closed

April 10, 2020

Canton’s Village-operated Partridge Run Golf Course will remain closed until at least Wednesday, April 29, in accordance with the latest state and local stay home and safe distancing directives and advisories.

On Wednesday, April 8, the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Offices issued a travel advisory, discouraging travel unless it is for essential needs, including food, medical attention, or work deemed essential.

On Thursday, April 9, the Governor directed schools and nonessential businesses to remain closed for an additional two weeks, through April 29; revised guidance was also issued, specifically stating that golf courses are not essential businesses.

On Friday, April 10, the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation announced that, in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders, all State playgrounds, athletic courts, and sporting fields, including golf courses, will be closed through Thursday, May 7.

Although the Village Board and staff share in the disappointment of the delayed golf course opening, at this time we believe this is in the best interest of Canton residents and our very best collective efforts to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Course maintenance is permitted and will continue in anticipation of opening later this season.

Thanks to everyone for your continued understanding and cooperation.
