The St. Lawrence County Seat

About Canton

The Village of Canton is an attractive college community with a historic business center, two golf courses, lovely parks, and vibrant culture. The County Seat of St. Lawrence County, it is home to two excellent universities: St. Lawrence University, a private four-year liberal arts college; and SUNY Canton, which offers two- and four-year degrees.  Canton is also the proud home of the world-class public broadcasting institution North Country Public Radio, broadcasting at WSLU 89.5 FM.

The Town of Canton is predominantly rural in character, boasting farms, open meadows, woodlands and beautiful open spaces; as well as the Village of Rensselaer Falls on the Oswegatchie River and the hamlets of Morley and Pyrites. It is located twenty minutes from the Canadian border in the St. Lawrence River Valley just North of the Adirondack Mountains.

Canton’s people form a strong community where neighbors know each other and citizens get involved with their schools, churches, and other institutions.

Canton offers a healthy business community and an active Chamber of Commerce. Our Economic Development Office works to improve our local community and ensure that businesses have the opportunity to thrive and prosper.

We live in a wonderful place, and invite you to take the time to discover Canton and all our community has to offer.
