Canton Clean up!

The Canton Community is invited to join in as volunteers on Make A Difference Day, Saturday
October 23, sponsored by St. Mary’s Church, Canton Catholic Campus Ministry, St. Lawrence
University and the Canton Chamber of Commerce. This event is also not possible without our
annual supports of Coakley’s Hardware and Sea Comm bank. On this day college students will
work side by side community members to improve the town of Canton.
Some of the service activities planned for Make A Difference Day include yard work and
maintenance for elderly homeowners, maintenance of playgrounds and cemeteries, clean up of
Village parks and other clean-up activities at public sites throughout the town.
This is annual event has been going on for over twenty years now and despite challenges brought
on from Covid, last year was a big success with over 300 volunteers raking leaves, fixing fences,
painting playgrounds and so much more! Due to the on-going pandemic, any community
volunteers do not need to come to SLU to check in. Instead, they are encouraged to support by
getting outside that day and doing clean up as well! If you need a specific location please reach
out!
Businesses may also wish to donate rakes, paper leaf bags, gloves or refreshments to the
volunteer crews. Anyone wishing to make a donation should contact the Canton Chamber at 315-
386-8255. In addition, anyone needing work done at their home or a local non-profit can contact
us at St. Lawrence University Student Activities Office 315-229-5135.
Make a difference in Canton! Donate at least an hour of your time on October 23 or donate
supplies to help make this day a success and to make Canton a better place to live!
