Are you Committed to Driving Responsibly and Safer this Summer?
Even though the Fourth of July is over, there’s plenty of time left to enjoy summer as there’s always a reason to celebrate and get together with friends and family in Canton. Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ or attending a wedding or birthday, don’t forget to drive responsibly, especially if you enjoy an alcoholic beverage or two. Wine is always a popular choice for these types of occasions, so be sure to drink responsibly if you plan on enjoying some. Have a designated driver or take public transportation to make sure everyone gets home safely.
While the risk of being involved in an accident, with a driver who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, is always present, the risk is greater during the late night and early morning hours of the weekend; a time when many people return home from events, festivals, and other celebrations.
According to research from the NHTSA FARS data collected between 2011 to 2016, there were 11 alcohol-related crash deaths in St. Lawrence County. While it’s far less than other counties throughout New York State, we all know that even one tragedy can deeply affect a community.
