Canton Trails
The Canton Community loves to be outside, taking in nature during all seasons! Having 15 registered St. Lawrence Country Trails (walking, running, cycling) within 10 miles of Downtown Canton, you can find an adventure around every turn. Click on the trail names listed below to learn more.
Walking/Running/Hiking
Glenmeal State Forest (2.1 miles): A small network of year-round trails and is a particularly popular spot for cross-country skiing in the winter.
Hart’s Falls Preserve (0.7 miles): A family-friendly trail that leads to a great waterfall. Suitable for year-round use, including snowshoes and cross-country skiing.
Heritage Park Trail/Cascade Falls (0.3 miles): A historical tour around Coakley and Falls Islands, Heritage Park Trail runs along the Grasse River.
Indian Creek Nature Center (5.1 miles): Quiet walking trails along the boundary of a large marsh offer interpretive panels, an observation tower, and excellent wildlife viewing.
Kip Trail (2.2 miles): An easy forest trek with views of the Little River.
Remington Trail (3.5 miles): A favorite destination for year-round walking, running, and biking.
St. Lawrence – Saddlemire Trail (2.1 miles): The trail covers scenery such as the Little River, a horse pasture, and tall grass fields.
St. Lawrence – Susan Ferguson Trail (2.5 miles): Trails loop around the St. Lawrence University athletic fields and along the Little River.
Cycling
Canton-Pyrites (13.8 miles): This scenic ride takes the rider along the flat to gently rolling county and town roads between Canton and Pyrites, bypassing the hamlet of Pyrites.
Indian Creek Tour (24.8 miles): This scenic tour takes the rider along the flat to gently rolling country roads between, Canton, Morley and Rensselaer Falls and completely around the Indian Creek Nature Center.
Lampson Falls Loop (45.3 miles): One of the main attractions along this route is the scenic Lampson Falls, a great spot for a picnic break.
Morley-Bucks Bridge-West Potsdam Loop (22.1 miles): This undulating ride takes you along the Grasse River through Morley to Bucks Bridge, then to West Potsdam and back to Canton through prime farmland.
Pyrites-Old Dekalb Road (16.3 miles): This short tour takes the rider into a series of scenic hills south and west of Canton.
Remington Trail (3.5 miles): A favorite meeting spot in the community for year-round walking, running, and biking.
Snowshoeing/Cross Country Skiing
