The St. Lawrence County Seat

Welcome to Canton, New York

Canton includes the Town of Canton, the Village of Canton, the Village of Rensselaer Falls, the Hamlets of Pyrites and Morley, and an abundance of beautiful open spaces. Located 25 minutes from both the Canadian border at the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack Park, our community boasts: a vibrant downtown; safe, comfortable neighborhoods; thriving farms with rolling pastures; and open meadows, woodlands, and valleys all close to the beautiful Grasse River.

Canton is the county seat of St. Lawrence County and we take pride in living as engaged citizens who love the area and have chosen to work, play, study, and raise our families here. As Canton residents, we get involved with our schools, churches and other organizations. It is a wonderful place to call home.

Canton is an attractive community for retirees, young professionals, entrepreneurs starting a niche business, and professionals in technology-related fields. It’s also a great place to live if you’re interested in health and wellness. The community offers plenty of opportunities to stay active and healthy, whether you’re looking for a challenging workout or a leisurely stroll. And with its extraordinary high quality of life, Canton is a great place to live no matter what your stage of life.

Canton is proud to be home to outstanding public schools, two excellent institutions of higher learning — St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton — and the St. Lawrence Health System, an international model for innovative rural health care.

Finally, Canton is a healthy economic community with an active Chamber of Commerce. Our Economic Development Office works with local government officials, the planning boards, and new enterprises to improve our local community and ensure that businesses have the opportunity to thrive and prosper.
