COVID-19 Statement

With the Village Board and our excellent staff, we are working diligently to ensure public safety and reduce the transmission of the coronavirus in our community. We are following all Federal and State executive orders and advisories, and are working closely with the County health department to stay apprised of developments.
On Friday, Governor Cuomo signed the “New York State on PAUSE” executive order mandating that, effective at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, people not gather in groups of any size and when in public spaces such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and parks should practice social distancing of at least six (6) feet from others.
Pursuant to the Governor’s work reduction orders, 100 percent of non-essential Village employees are working from home. Employees doing work that is considered essential to the safe and necessary operations of the Village and to our response to the COVID-19 emergency, including public safety and public works, are being scheduled to work in shifts that ensure a safe work environment and recommended social distancing.
All Canton residents should understand and follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and State and County public health experts: practice social/physical distancing, maintaining at least a six-foot distance from others in public; wash your hands frequently, with soap, for at least 20 seconds; limit travel to essential trips for groceries, gas, medicine, etc. Parents, please impress on your children the importance of these measures.
Together we can face the health and economic consequences of these measures. For the health and well-being of everyone, we must all urgently follow national, state, and local directives.
The next Village Board meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 23, has been rescheduled for Monday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m. This will not be an in-person meeting. Information about joining the virtual meeting from a computer, tablet, smartphone, or landline will be available on the Canton website and published by the local media.
