Pandemic Relief Funding Available: Town Seeks Input From Businesses Impacted By COVID-19

August 6, 2021

CANTON, NY – The Town of Canton is seeking small businesses and microenterprises with fewer than 25 employees that have been impacted by the pandemic and are in need of assistance. The Town is applying for funds through the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CDBG CARES) Act for funds that can be used to address improvements that support customer/staff safety and improve business resiliency. To prepare a successful application, the Town is looking for input from businesses to demonstrate the need for funding.

If awarded, the Town would offer grants to businesses that create jobs for persons of low-moderate income. Businesses interested in participating must be prepared show how COVID-19 has negatively impacted their business, and demonstrate economic hardship. Reimbursement can be requested for costs dating back to January 21, 2020. For more information about eligibility please see the Request for Applications.

Funds can be used for new equipment or fixtures to guide social distancing, technology to increase efficiency and implement post-COVID business practices or working capital to resume operations following the business closures. Priority will be given to businesses unable to access other state or federal resources for support. Assistance to larger businesses (over 25 employees) can be considered, but will be subject to demonstration of need and impact on the remaining small businesses in the community not receiving assistance.

In an effort to effectively address the childcare needs of parents and families, the Town of Canton is especially interested in hearing from childcare providers in the Town and Village of Canton. Childcare providers who were negatively impacted by COVID-19 and / or would benefit from funding in order to make improvements that support child/staff safety and improve business resiliency are encouraged to apply.
