Participants Sought for Canton Recreation Advisory Committee

May 21, 2021

The Town and Village Recreation Committee invites any Canton resident interested in serving on the newly established Recreation Advisory Committee to complete this interest form (also available in the Village or Town Clerk’s office, 60 Main Street, Canton).

The Recreation Advisory Committee is being created in response to the recommendations of the Reimagining Canton Recreation Committee, which met for several months over the winter to examine Canton’s municipal recreation program and explore opportunities to enhance and improve it.

One recommendation was to engage a group of community volunteers to work with and support the Recreation Director and the joint Recreation Committee. The Recreation Committee seeks six to eight Canton Town and Village residents who represent a broad spectrum of community recreation interests to be actively involved as the community’s voice in charting the future of Canton Recreation. Committee composition will be based on applicants’ interests and recreation affiliations; the goal is as balanced representation of community recreation constituencies as possible.

Recreation Advisory Committee members will be a valuable year-round resource to the municipal recreation team, sharing ideas, providing a sounding board, and serving as a liaison to their recreation interest groups in the community. The committee will meet monthly to provide advice and support on recreation programming, strategic planning, and program implementation.

Information forms must be submitted no later than Wednesday, June 2, at 4 p.m.

The Recreation Committee is also receiving applications for the position of Recreation Director. Further information is also available at www.cantonny.gov.
