The St. Lawrence County Seat

Court Street Study & Pop-Up Project

The Court Street study was conducted by Clarkson C3G grad students during the summer 2022 to advise the Village of Canton of potential safety improvements for biking and pedestrian use on Court Street. Supervised by Erik Backus, Clarkson Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering; sponsored by St Lawrence County Health Initiative.
The Canton Village Board and Complete Streets Task Force will be discussing options for Court Street safety improvements. Updates will be posted here.
Coming Soon to Court St!
Complete Streets are roadways that are safe and convenient for everyone. The Canton Complete Streets Task Force is made up of volunteers who work with village and town boards to recommend improvements to roadway conditions. Recommendations are always focused on pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation riders, and motorists of all ages and abilities.
Coming soon, in September 2023, a pop-up demonstration will offer our community a chance to test temporary roadway improvements that would make travel safer along a busy section of Court Street. Ongoing conversations with local stakeholders and residents will be part of the communications plan and the group welcomes community input.
The Court Street Pop-Up Project builds upon a study conducted by Clarkson’s C3G engineering students with support made available from the St. Lawrence County Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant, funded by the New York State Department of Health.
Stay tuned for more information about how you can become involved in the Court Street pop-up project!
