The St. Lawrence County Seat

Boat Launches

Canton features three boat launches within the town limits: Little River Boat Launch, Pyrites Boat Launch, and Taylor Park.

Located just on the edge of the Village, near St. Lawrence University campus, the Little River Boat Launch is a great spot to launch a canoe, kayak, or small fishing boat. There is parking available inside the park along with picnic tables for an outdoor meal among friends. From Downtown Canton, drive south on CR-27 (towards Russell), drive over the Little River bridge, and the park is on your right.

The Pyrites Boat Launch is located off CR-21 in the Hamlet of Pyrites. The rumbling falls, just upstream of the launch, makes this park a favorite spot for a picnic during the heat of the summer. Ample parking is available in the lot along the roadside, and a walkway allows you to easily carry or wheel your canoe or kayak down the pathway to the river. From Downtown Canton, drive south on CR-27 (towards Russell), turn right on CR-25/Canton-Russell Rd. (at the four-way stop, just past the Meadows Restaurant), turn right on to Canton-Pyrites Rd. (at the blinking yellow traffic light), follow the road until you make a sharp 90-degree left turn and then turn right onto CR-21. The parking lot will be on the left side of the road.

In the Spring of 2022, thanks to generous donations from community members and local businesses, Taylor Park received an ADA Canoe/Kayak Launch manufactured by BoardSafe. The launch allows greater access to the Grasse River for the entire community, helping not only the disabled, but anyone who needs assistance getting in and out of a canoe/kayak. Taylor Park is open seasonally, typically the beginning of May and closing after Labor Day. Kayaks are also available to rent at Taylor Park during open beach hours.
