CANTON SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR DOWNTOWN BUILDING RENOVATION PROJECTS

Canton, New York – The Village of Canton intends to submit an application to the 2020 New York Main Street Grant program (NYMS) offered through the NYS Office of Homes and Community Renewal. The program provides matching grants to building owners for renovation of mixed-use buildings. Project proposals are being sought that request funds to assist building renovation and improvement projects relating to façade restoration, creation and/or renovation of second story residential units, creation and/or renovation of lower-level basement commercial units, and health and safety improvements. Ancillary COVID Relief projects may also be considered in the 2020 funding round.

Canton’s historic downtown business district is the target area. Included are sections of Main Street and adjacent side streets, more specifically: 1-127 Main Street (between Riverside Drive and North Country Savings Bank), 3 East Main Street (St. Lawrence County Historical Association), 2-33 Riverside Drive (from Main Street to State Street), 8-24 Miner Street, 1-15 Hodskin Street, 1-24 Court Street, and 1-22 Park Street. The Target Area may be refined after applications are received and projects are selected to maximize program impact, as required by the NYMS program.
