We are very excited about our Downtown Revitalization Initiative application! The Town and Village have been laying the groundwork and doing substantial planning for downtown revitalization for years. The work on our Comprehensive Plan is pulling all of that legwork and planning together to chart Canton’s future course in many areas, including downtown revitalization. Please join us and share your ideas!
The Town of Canton, Village of Canton, and Village of Rensselaer Falls are pleased to announce the second public open house for the Canton Comprehensive Plan. The open house is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES. The evening will include a presentation by the project team with a question and answer period from 6:30-7:00 p.m. followed by an open house from 7:15-8:15 p.m. with feedback stations. The evening will conclude with a second question and answer period.
The open house will provide an opportunity for the public to share feedback on the draft vision, guiding principles and preliminary recommendations that will form the foundation of the Comprehensive Plan. The materials have been drafted based on input from meetings with local stakeholders, feedback from the first public open house and comments received through various public outreach events. The open house is also an opportunity for community members to learn about the comprehensive planning process.
A Comprehensive Plan is a blueprint for the future of a community. The plan will create a framework for the future, particularly in the areas of land use, economic growth, resiliency and sustainability, community identity, and transportation and mobility.
The Town and Villages have established a Comprehensive Plan Committee that is working with a team of planning, design, and engineering specialists led by M.J. Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. and supported by River Street Planning and Development. This project is funded by the New York State Department of State under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund.
More information about upcoming meetings and project updates will be available on the project website at cantonnycomprehensiveplan.com.
